War, Peace, and Internationalism Today

A Convergence Syllabus

Building powerful movements opposed to each of Washington’s destructive actions – from the war against Iran and continued support for Israeli genocide to promotion of increased use of fossil fuels across the globe – is urgent.

The US has a long history of making war, intervening in other countries’ affairs, and defying international law in its approach to foreign policy. These chronic problems are now exacerbated by MAGA’s efforts at consolidating racist authoritarian rule and making climate change denialism and naked might-makes-right bullying pillars of US foreign policy.

Building powerful movements opposed to the each of Washington’s destructive actions – from the war against Iran and continued support for Israeli genocide to promotion of increased use of fossil fuels across the globe – is urgent. Our efforts to do that will be most effective if they are based on an accurate assessment of the rapidly changing global landscape; a compelling vision  of a transformed relationship of the US to the rest of the world; and the integration of an internationalist perspective into the overall movement to defeat US-style fascism and begin a new cycle of deep progressive change.

This syllabus is offered by Convergence Magazine as one tool for equipping US activists and organizers to meet that challenge. The syllabus is for a two-session study; discussion groups are encouraged to set aside about 60 minutes per session.
