Shawna McCown

Shawna McCown is an educator, musician, and community leader, organizer, and activist. She is a substitute teacher in Boyd County, Kentucky, and teaches music lessons to students in Martin County, Kentucky. Shawna performs is under the name Tia Woods and with the band Ditch Lilies. She’s a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and fiddler. Shawna is a board member for Stidham Old Time Music Association and Mountain Music Teacher’s Association, and a leader in Kentucky People’s Union, Appalachian People’s Union, and Advocates for Appalachia, active grassroots organizations in East Kentucky. She’s a community organizer and activist, from teacher sickouts in Louisville, KY, to fighting hyperscale data centers and mass surveillance in her Boyd County, Kentucky.
