Maribel Morey

A historian of US philanthropy and the social sciences, Dr. Maribel Morey serves as a consultant historian on the history of US philanthropy for several leading US foundations.

Dr. Morey also serves as executive director at the Miami Institute for the Social Sciences, a nonprofit organization responding to the unique positionality of Miami as a hub for international thought with global calls to bring to the center of academic scholarship perspectives and understandings of the Global Majority.

Dr. Morey is the author White Philanthropy: Carnegie Corporation’s An American Dilemma and the Making of a White World Order (aff) (University of North Carolina Press, 2021). She is working on a second book project tentatively titled “Philanthropic Minds in Fraught Times,” detailing how today’s funders can learn from their predecessors in the field who financed education and the social sciences in similarly fraught times in US and global history.

Morey has a PhD in History from Princeton University and a JD from NYU Law School.
