Lisa Covington
Dr. Lisa Covington is the Director of the Ethnic Studies Leadership Academy in Iowa City, Iowa. The Ethnic Studies Leadership Academy provides an opportunity for youth of color to learn advocacy strategies rooted in the tradition of Black Studies. Middle school students are provided with one-on-one mentoring, access to local and national grassroots organizations and skills development in research, writing and digital humanities. Dr. Covington received recognition of this work by the Department of Iowa Human Rights with the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award in 2020.
