David Monkawa immigrated with his family to the US, where they landed in the Crenshaw Adams district of Los Angeles, CA. He has organized in Asian communities and in the service and healthcare sectors, on the shop floor in both union and non-union workplaces; he’s the former assistant national organizing director for the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United. Now he chairs the Save Our Seniors Network, based in the Japanese-American community of Los Angeles, and organizes with Little Tokyo Against Gentrification.
