Do you remember the first time you shared a big idea with a comrade? What it felt like when you wrote it all out and had someone you respect read it? Or maybe the first time you shared something you wrote publicly?

It’s getting harder to make the time and space to do the kind of deep, critical thinking and writing we need to find a way through our historical moment, beset by economic challenges, political pressures, and state violence. And yet, it’s never been more important for organizers to take the time to think through the urgent questions we must answer as we navigate the current crisis.

That’s exactly the kind of work that Convergence Magazine was founded to nurture, and we’re trying something new next year to build on that legacy.

We’ll be welcoming the first two Max Elbaum Resident Writers in early 2026. These fellows will join us for a year of mentorship, publishing, and sharing ideas, guided by our new Managing Editor, Akin Olla. We’ve named the fellowship after our longtime board chair, Max Elbaum, whose lifelong commitment to movement-accountable, politically rooted writing, scholarship, and media-making is a template for the kind of engaged, reflective leadership we most need today.
