Purvi Shah

Purvi Shah is a lawyer, law professor, and movement strategist. For the past 15 years, she has been working to build a new generation of legal organizations and lawyers to work alongside progressive/left social movements. Purvi has founded a range of movement lawyering organizations and networks including: Movement Law Lab, Law For Black Lives, the Global Network of Movement Lawyers, the Eviction Resistance Legal Network, and the Community Justice Project. She has created a range of programs to politicize, mentor and train thousands of lawyers on how to work collaboratively with grassroots organizers to shift culture, systems and power. She has served as a legal advisor to a range of movement groups including the Movement for Black Lives, the Right to the City Alliance, taxi driver associations, tenant unions, student groups, and immigrants rights groups. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Purvi worked as a community organizer with youth in Miami, students in India, and families of incarcerated youth in California.
