Jennifer Disla

Jennifer Disla is a dedicated organizer, labor leader, and social justice advocate with deep roots in immigrant working communities. The daughter of Dominican immigrants, she witnessed firsthand how access to union protections shaped opportunities for families like hers—an experience that fueled her commitment to systemic change.

Jennifer began organizing in 2008 with the Healthcare for America Now Campaign in Missouri and later worked as a Labor Organizer with SEIU Local 1, where she fought alongside Black janitors, faith leaders, and responsible shareholders to secure union wages and protections at Express Scripts. Her leadership contributed to a significant victory that ensured fair wages and benefits for workers and their families.

As the Co-Executive Director of Detroit Action, Jennifer spearheaded multimillion-dollar economic and justice campaigns and led efforts to mobilize over 20,000 Detroiters in advocacy work since the 2020 election. She served as the Co-Executive Director of Leadership for Democracy and Social Justice, continuing her fight for equity and representation in policymaking. She recently completed the Senior Fellow role at Colin Powell School, City College , which allowed significant time to build on Democracy forward training and curriculum. She currently is the Deputy Director for One Fair Wage; she is fighting alongside Restaurant Workers to build power to bring Living Wage for All across the country.

A contributing author to Oxford University Press’s BE THE CHANGE, Jennifer’s work has been recognized in academic and policy communities, solidifying her as a thought leader on race, labor rights, and systemic inequities. Her writing offers a deeply personal yet widely resonant exploration of identity, resilience, and the pursuit of liberation living as an Afro-Latina with Bipolar Disorder. She is also a Dominican Writers Association Alumni, Summer ‘25.
